Chorsu
July 18, 2014I both love and hate Chorsu Bazaar in Tashkent. It’s one of the city’s largest and it always makes me feel overwhelmed and scared.
On the flipside, it’s simply amazing to get lost in the seemingly neverending rows of shops, stalls and random people selling pretty much anything you could want. This is a full on local bazaar so nobody is pushy and nobody aggressively solicits you for sales; which is very different from other bazaars I’ve been to around the world. It’s a nice change.
In an effort to experiment and push my comfort level, I went out with one lens (rather than my customary ridiculously large bag), set the camera on aperture priority (rather than manual) and without a plan (this is pretty common for me actually, haha).
I was definitely uncomfortable, but I hope to make frequent trips to this and other bazaars to learn about and document more of the bazaar culture.
