Dancing in Beijing
July 16, 2014I was only in Beijing for a couple of days and was fortunate to have some amazing weather; locals couldn’t believe the PPM was down in the 100 range (apparently it’s usually much higher). Three days straight of blue skies and sun; temperatures in the low 40’s! It rained and was smoggy on our last morning, but we left early so didn’t really experience it.
We visited all the standard tourist spots but I enjoyed the Temple of Heaven most; not necessarily for the architecture but for the vibe. There was obviously many tourists crowding the main temple and larger buildings, so we stopped in for a second then wandered the grounds to avoid the throngs of people shouting at the echo wall and taking pictures with their ipads.
The gardens were beautiful and huge; some were meticulously manicured, others were wild and nearly overgrown. I enjoyed the latter ones more; one of my favourite photographs of the trip was made of some gardeners in one of these wild gardens.
There were also groups of dancers, dancing to almost every imaginable type of music under the trees. This group was dancing beautifully; I stayed for quite some time in the shade enjoying them!
